Safe, Supported and Refreshing Breaks Away from Home

We offer NDIS-funded Respite Care and Short-Term Accommodation (STA) for participants who need time away from home or from their regular carers. Whether it’s for a few days or a couple of weeks, our STA options provide a nurturing, home-like environment where participants can relax, recharge, and feel completely supported.

What is Respite Care and STA?

Short-Term Accommodation (STA), including respite care, allows NDIS participants to stay in a supported setting for a short period, typically when carers are unavailable or when the participant wants a break, change of environment, or social opportunity.

STA includes:

  • Comfortable Accommodation
  • 24-hour Personal Care Supports
  • Nutritious meals and drinks
  • Social and Recreational Activities

How to Access STA Through the NDIS?

You can use your Core Supports Budget to access STA, even if it’s not specifically listed in your NDIS plan.

Here’s how:

  • Speak to your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or Support Coordinator
  • Discuss your goals and how STA supports your wellbeing
  • Request STA as part of your plan review

The NDIA typically funds up to 28 days per year and you can use it flexibly:

  • One weekend per month
  • Two weeks at a time
  • Several short stays throughout the year

At SDA Homes & Services, your supports are delivered with your choice and control in mind.

What Can You Use STA / Respite For?

STA can support a variety of goals and situations, such as:

  • Taking a break from caring responsibilities
  • Meeting new people and expanding your social circle
  • Engaging in new activities and hobbies
  • Becoming more socially active and confident
  • Building independent living and daily life skills
  • Getting away for a change of scenery and routine

What to Expect at SDA Homes & Services Respite Accommodation

We offer warm, welcoming, and NDIS-compliant homes that feel like a true home away from home.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Clean, cosy houses and apartments in Melbourne
  • 24/7 staff availability to provide care and supervision
  • Home-cooked meals (plus takeout options if preferred)
  • Access to transportation for medical appointments or outings
  • A calendar of fun, inclusive activities to enjoy during your stay

Whether you need high support or are mostly independent, we tailor your stay to suit your needs and preferences.

For More Independent Participants

If you’re more independent and don’t need much day-to-day assistance, we can create a low-support STA plan that gives you freedom to continue working on your independent living goals while enjoying your time away.
